We knew this was coming.  The first BigLaw engagements in Madoff’s colossal swindle are being reported.  The big guy himself has tapped Dickstein Shapiro’s Daniel Horwitz (Columbia BA ’82, American JD ’90), Mauro Wolfe (Indiana BS ’90, Temple JD ’96), and Ira Lee Sorkin (Tulane BA ’65, GWU JD ’68).

In a play from the Commodus/Marcus Aurelius playbook, Madoff’s sons Mark and Andrew hired Martin Flumenbaum (Columbia BA ’71, Harvard JD ’74) from Paul Weiss promptly after their father told them about the scam.  Which was also promptly before they went running to the FBI.

We’re still waiting for the various investors’ BigLaw counsel to be named.  You can bet that will be coming soon, especially with the possibility that any gains and withdrawals may be subject to clawback.  We’re also starting a pool on who will be debtor’s counsel and trustee.  Make your predictions in the comments.

Let us know if you have any information.
