Sure, Susan Dominus is just trying to convey someone else’s opinion, but it’s not a quote. In an article about an IT shop that sets up home offices for laid-off hedgies, she writes (emphasis added):
To the average white-collar worker, the tech guy occupies a slot somewhere between the plumber and the in-house counsel — he is there to serve, but holds a worker’s professional well-being in his highly skilled hands. He sometimes has access to highly confidential documents and must be discreet. He must inspire confidence. He must speak the local dialect. He must respond with speed.
Has it really come to this? Is she accurately relating hedgies’ BSD mentality (everyone else is here to serve me, the master of the universe) or is she jealous because reporters are lower on the scrivenerial food chain?
