RIAA Throws in Towel

broken-recordFinally!  The RIAA has recognized the utter failure of its crusade of suing customers.  After five years and 35,000 lawsuits, the RIAA announced plans to change tactics and start working with ISPs.  Under the new regime, the RIAA will notify the ISPs of suspected infringers and the ISPs will forward correspondence and, perhaps, ultimately turn off the infringers’ service.

We don’t support copyright infringement, but we did find the RIAA’s abuse of process despicable, so we applaud the move.

Tenuous connection to BigLaw: back in 2003, the American Library Association and the RIAA (strident opponents on a number of issues) had a conflicts kerfuffle over Jenner & Block.   Holme Roberts & Owen  and Shook Hardy & Bacon were among the firms that did work for the RIAA in the now-deceased campaign.
