Jenner & Block Gets Lehman-Examiner Appointment

by law shucks on January 20, 2009

valukas_antonAnton Valukas, chairman of Jenner & Block, has been selected as the court-appointed examiner in Lehman’s bankruptcy.  Valukas (Lawrence U. ’65, Northwestern JD ’68) will have “the power to investigate a wide range of issues, including asset transfers or breaches of fiduciary duty before and after the bankruptcy filing.”

From the “It’s a Small [Legal] World” Department: the motion for appointment of an examiner was made by Disney, through counsel Marty Bienenstock of Dewey & Lebouef.  Bienenstock cut his teeth at Weil Gotshal under Harvey Miller (about whom we’ve written previously), who represents Lehman.

Coincidentally, the appointment comes almost exactly 20 years after Valukas was the subject of a feature profile in the Times for his work as a prosecutor out of Chicago (the “Rudy Giuliani of the Midwest”).
