* Akin Gump‘s layoff of 65 staff came after we left for the weekend last week. It’s included now.
* Squire Sanders and Holland & Knight laid off some staff, but no numbers.
* “Up to 10%” layoff at Cooley Godward & Kronish. No definitive numbers yet so we can’t add.
* Didn’t include some UK regional firms and other firms we’ve never heard of: UK firms SJ Berwin for 40, LG for 37 (after a round of 21 in September), Denton Wilde Sapte for 80, Mishcon de Reya for 17, and Addleshaw Goddard for 19 (and counting); and California real-estate firm Cox Castle & Nicholson for 12 (a tipster had some more information than that article).
* Added to the Tracker this week:
- Linklaters for 70, including many partners (and more expected at all levels);
- Allen & Overy for 5 in New York (in addition to last week’s 10);
- Baker & McKenzie for 20 lawyers in London (and staff told their jobs are on the line too – and after firing six lawyers earlier this year in New York);
- Skadden for 30 staff attorneys;
- Ashurst for 10 partners;
- Cooley for a whopping 114 (52 lawyers, 62 staff); and
- Cadwalader for nine more associates (third time’s a charm?).
BRUTAL week.
293 for the week.
658 for the month.
2,420 total since 1/1/08.
Update: Added Choate Hall & Stewart for 35 - 15 lawyers and 20 staff.
