Allen & Overy is cutting up to 247 people – 47 partners, 100 200 attorneys, and 100 200 staff. Mostly in London. That vaults the firm into our Top 10 list (Total Layoffs) at #3#1, behind ahead of Magic Circle peer Linklaters and Tampa’s Holland & Knight.
More interestingly, it means that the top 3 firms by attorneys laid off are all Magic Circle: Linklaters has laid off 200, Clifford Chance 186, and now 160 260 at A&O, which had previously laid off 13 in January (and not counting Deidre Dare). London’s DLA Piper is also on that list, with 101 attorneys sacked.
Slaughter & May, which hasn’t expanded nearly as much as its peers, and Freshfields are the two remaining Magic Circle Firms without notable layoffs to date.
