Layoff Tracker Update – 2/16/09

by law shucks on February 16, 2009

top_10_firms_by_attorneys_staff_copyAssuming we went public at version 1.0, let’s call this version 1.5.  We’re starting to segregate data based on attorneys and staff, where available.  The data become more accurate over time, so February and January are pretty reliable.  Prior to that, the articles didn’t distinguish as well as they do now.

In particular, the Rolling 12 Months Chart now shows three columns for each month – attorneys, staff, and total.

We’ve also substantially revised the Top Ten Lists.  You can see the top 10 firms by total layoffs, by attorneys, and by staff.  Unfortunately, we can’t sort the results in descending rank, so you’re going to have to eyeball it to tell two firms apart for now.  (Sonnenschein is currently 184 total, Reed Smith is 183).

But that leads us to the most important information.  You can hover your mouse over a column and the values pop up.  Pretty soon you will be able to click on the column to see the underlying data.

Hopefully you’ll appreciate this as a step in the right direction.  These changes are all directly based on feedback, so keep it coming.

Next up in the roadmap is to present the chart data with similar interactivity.  After that, we’ll work on design – although that’s severely limited by zoho’s functionality (the sorting bar charts is also limited by zoho) – and by the complete absence of any skill on that front here.

Finally, comments aren’t allowed on the static pages, so if you have feedback, put it on a post (particularly this one), or send us an email.
