The Philadelphia District Attorney’s office made news recently when it announced that it was rescinding offers to all 12 lawyers who were supposed to start in the fall.

Now the San Francisco District Attorney has laid off two attorneys in the misdemeanor unit, three paralegals, and two investigators.  Typically, the misdemeanor unit is the starting point for new prosecutors.  Erika Yuen, one of the attorneys reportedly laid off, appears to fit that mold: she was admitted to the bar in 2006.  The other attorney reportedly affected is Monique Nguyen Camperi, who was admitted in 2003.

It looks like the junior ranks are just as available in the public sector as in private practice.

It still shocks me that the profession my mother tried to push me into because it was "stable" is having layoffs left, right and center.

It is a sad day when the public sector that we were forced to avoid bc of law school debt is now also suffering.
