Securities Class Action Services has published its “SCAS 50″ list of the top 50 plaintiffs’ firms ranked by total settlement dollars in 2008.
We’re shamelessly about the BigLaw here, so none of these firms cut it (which is both a character defect and pretty stupid, considering the name partners are probably making a lot more than their BigLaw counterparts, but whatever).
But we did want to give a shoutout to our BigLaw colleagues who represented the corporations! It was a banner year for the defense side. American Lawyer notes anecdotally what we consider the lede:
The study notes that 2008 was the first time in six years that no plaintiffs firm notched more than $1 billion in total settlements. That mirrors a recent Cornerstone Research study co-authored by Stanford Law School’s Joseph Grundfest, which found that class action settlement values fell 50 percent last year.
