I forgot the last part of your quastion. The starting salary varies big time and it's very difficult to give you a straight answer even if I only count Bucharest to this exercise.
The thing is that there are extreme types of lawyers (and many shades of grey) back here: the ones that work on their own and maybe do a favor (read sometimes even request money) for an alum to perform his/her traineeship (mandatory 2 years). In this case, as I said, some even complain they had to pay to receive this traineeship, so I don't know what to say about actually getting paid..
The other extreme is where the "corporate lawyers" are. Big teams of lawyers working together and getting paid quite well. To get there you have to be a good student, but it's not always enough. You have to also be confident in your potential, something which I think too many alumni miss. In this case I think that a starting salary would be of at least EUR 1000.

White&Case is not that big for now. They have just opened the office last year, so it can't compete with other solid teams and/or high-profit practices.

If we count the profits, I think it's somewhere over EUR 10 mil per year. If we count the lawyers, over 50.

Hey RO lawyer, what qualifies as BigLaw in Romania? What's the starting salary for a first year in leu? Perhaps we can export some of our U.S. BigLaw casualties to Bucharest...

Thanks for the context. So how does one say "Thank you (for coming)" in Romanian? You're right, that's what google translate spat out, but it's always useful to know how to thank someone in their own language.

The article you are referring to is a review of foreign press with a focus on the legal world. And you're right, the subject is not funny at all since it shows layoffs among lawyers in the US. With us it's not that bad yet...

Thank you for the very nice intention in your final phrase in Romanian. I guess it comes from Google translate, which is why it "shucks" :), it says something like "you thank yourselves for to come".

I think it's funny that my blog is read by someone in Romania. I have no idea whether the content is funny (which, considering it's quoting my layoff figures, it's not likely to be).

Vã mulþumiþi pentru sã veniþi!

How come it's funny when you say you have no idea what it means?

PS: yes, it's huge, the site you are referring to is the best in the legal field in Romania.
