Quick Shucks – 4/13/09

paper-chaseWe’re in Blawg Review 207.  Check out Law 21’s summary of last week’s best of the legal web (plus us).

We consider voluntary buyouts layoffs – what should we do about sabbaticals?  Skadden has had 125 associates volunteer to take a year off but still get paid 1/3 of base.  That was more than anticipated, to the surprise of no one, other than partners who were shocked SHOCKED that associates would want the time off.

Bitter Lawyer’s piece on breast implants for lawyers “has legs” as they say.  Rush Limbaugh of all people took exception, saying it “set feminism back 50 years.”  BL is flattered, but admits it probably doesn’t have that much power.

Big dustup in Maine.  One partner allegedly steals $410,000, so the managing partner steps down.  (HT: @lawyerkm – which is a Twitter name.  And you should be following us on Twitter already (@lawshucks))

Contracts Prof Blog discovers that the original CBS one-year series, “The Paper Chase” is out on video.  Turns out there were also three subsequent seasons that aired on Showtime.  So the greatest contracts student ever needed four years to get through HLS?

Finally, the AP wrote a story about us.

I'd follow your twitter if there were a feed on the right side of the page; maybe move the Tags down since they are all more or less the same size except for the giant LAYOFFS in the middle.
