Snoop Dogg has obviously learned that his east-side homey Notorious B.I.G. had it right: mo’ money, mo’ problems.
Mr. Dogg is currently facing a $22 million personal-injury suit from one Richard Monroe, who claims that Snoop hit him with a brass knuckle microphone, causing a broken nose, a busted lip, black eyes and bruised ribs. Snoop is taking the stand as part of the defense. The 6′3″, 300-pound Monroe claims he was just accepting Snoop’s personal invitation to come up on stage and join in a rendition of the summertime anthem, “Gin n’ Juice.” He vehemently denies bum rushing the stage, yo.
How do we know Snoop has learned his lesson? He doesn’t mess around with who he picks as counsel. B.I.G.Law after the jump.
Snoop’s usual lawyer is Donald Etra, who also represents Rihanna and other citizens of Los Angeles requiring criminal defense. Aside from being an assistant US attorney at one point in his life, Etra was a partner at Sidley Austin, for about 12 years. With degrees from Columbia and Yale and a career as a partner at a white-shoe law shoe, Etra is uniquely qualified to understand and empathize with all the drama in the LBC. Etra himself rolls with quite the crew – when not hanging with Snoop and the LBC, he hangs with George W. Bush in the DC. He and the former president have been close friends since their days together at Yale, where they were both members of Skull and Bones. (By the way, you really should read that article about Etra, it’s fascinating)
For the case at hand, though, he turned to Hayes Michel (Northwestern BS ‘85, UCLA JD ‘88) of Baker & Hostetler. Michel joined the firm just recently from someplace we’ve never heard of, but clearly any firm would be thrilled to have a partner who claims the Dee Oh Double Jizzle as a client.
