+ For some reason, Warren Beatty is locked in a “four-year litigation battle” over film rights to Dick Tracy, the comic-book character he portrayed in that awful vanity film with then-flame Madonna. I would think he’d be fighting to have his name taken off anything to do with that piece of shit, but apparently he wants the rights. Skadden’s Greg Galardi somehow found time to fit this dog into his calendar. I’m pretty sure he can get all the copies he wants from the Bargain Bin in that Circuit City bankruptcy he’s handling.
+ Uh oh. We’re awaiting the Wall Street sequel with bated breath, notwithstanding the nauseating casting of Shia LeBoeuf. As if that weren’t bad enough, Dealbreaker is saying the script is currently a “cringe-inducing, unintentional joke.”
More non-film shucks after the jump.
+ Who knew admiralty cases could be so lucrative? Covington’s James Goold won a big dismissal for Spain in a $500 million salvage dispute involving a frigate returning to that country in 1804 laden with treasure from the new world that was sunk by the English.
+ Former Cravath lawyer, Pulitzer-prize finalist and runner-up on the NYT Best Seller list, Gerald (no relation to Richard) Posner spoke with Bitter Lawyer. 10 books after leaving the “sweatshop,” he’s still not bitter.
+ Fee income at top UK law firms is down 4.3%, but chargeable hours are down 6.8%. So they increased rates as the economy tanked? And standard hours in 2007 were around 1,125 (they were down to 1,053 this year)?
+ Speaking of UK firms, Eversheds doesn’t trust the UK banking system and has withdrawn deposits from a number of pissed off, former-client banks.
+ Sponsoring an LPGA golfer only costs in the low five-figures, according to a Kelley Drye partner who bought a spot. I’m thinking Law Shucks publicity stunt.
