Cohen circa 1984
It’s 85 degrees, sunny and beautiful in Los Angeles, touch of smog, and you’re a young, hungry, up-and-coming lawyer – damn the recession, you’re different, and you have your pick of law firms to choose from.
California has firms in all shapes and sizes: there are the behemoths like trendsetter Latham & Watkins and quiet, midsized firms like Loeb & Loeb, but those pastures don’t seem as green right now.
Better yet, go where the action is – a dynamic, growing shop headed by a baby faced boy wonder legal whiz like Zuber & Taillieu.
There are many law firms to choose from in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, but there is only one headed by an unforgettable childhood movie star.
Jeff B. Cohen, a.k.a. CHUNK from the blockbuster 1985 hit The Goonies is now a lawyer with his own firm. Cohen had a nice run in the 80s, appearing on Webster, The Facts of Life, and Family Ties (a divine trinity of 80s family sitcoms – he just needed Diff’rent Strokes for the Superfecta), but real success in front of the cameras eluded him.
Cohen circa 2009
He just can’t seem to shake the Hollywood bug, though – the UCLA Law graduate is taking on the entertainment world with his own firm.
Cohen & Gardner, LLP is a Beverly Hills based transactional entertainment law firm formed in 2002 by Jeff B. Cohen, Esq. and Jonathan Gardner, Esq. Mr. Cohen and Mr. Gardner had previously worked together at Universal Studios in the Worldwide Television Division.
Although, he is now roughly just half the size of his boyish self (allowing for growth, of course), you can still see the impish smirk of the same kid who told Joe Pantolione (a.k.a Francis Fratelli): “But the worst thing I ever done – I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa – and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.”
We haven’t seen the barf-o-rama negotiation tactic employed recently, but we know where to go if we need it.
