Goldman Lawyer Arrested

by law shucks on July 29, 2009

Of all the lawyers’ paths to follow, Todd Genger, a Goldman Sachs lawyer, had to go and choose James Colliton???

Much like Colliton, Genger has been arrested for soliciting an underage girl for sex.

That’s not the only thing Genger has in common with Colliton.

They’re both BigLaw vets. After the jump, his prior firm and sweet, sweet irony.

Genger used to be a securities lawyer at Sidley Austin. In fact, the firm still uses him in some marketing materials:

“Despite a commitment to delivering outstanding client service and work product that is the envy of other law firms, Sidley remains a place where you can have a rewarding and enriching life at the office and a life outside of work too. Where other large law firm’s promise ‘lifestyle,’ Sidley comes closest to delivering it!”
Todd Genger
Associate, Washington, D.C.
George Washington 2001

Surely, this wasn’t the kind of ‘lifestyle’ outside of work Sidley envisioned.

A story like this is just unbelievable. Of course, attorneys are humans too, but it gives the legal industry a black eye.

What’s really unbelievable is that a lawyer is stupid enough to do something that’s so obviously going to get him caught. Even if he never heard of the guy from Cravath, he wasn’t worried about showing up on freaking NBC in primetime on To Catch a Predator?

It gets worse than that – even if he had heard of the show – doesn't he realize young girls are off limits? Makes me question how he made it through the system this far.
