* Ira Parker will be keeping his job as GC of AOL. The former Alston & Bird partner’s new responsibilities include handling the spinoff from Time Warner. Anyone remember when AOL “acquired” Time Warner? Guess that didn’t work out so hot.

* Goldman Sachs has finally backed down from the idiotic C&D letter it had Chadbourne send to the operators of goldmansachs666.com. We love mocking the lawyers who send these idiotic letters and we love it even more when the companies sending the letters turn tail.
* GM GC Robert Osborne is returning to Jenner & Block, the firm whence he came. He joined Jenner in 2002 after a long run at Kirkland, then left in 2006 for the inhouse gig.
* PEHub thinks Bingham McCutchen tried to bury Chris Cox’s run as SEC Chairman in the press release announcing his arrival.
* A Cleary Gottlieb investigation led to the ouster of two executives at Deutsche Bank, who somehow never heard of HP’s problems investigating its board. Or they heard about it and thought it was a good idea to spy on directors in Germany, where lingering fears of the Stasi have led to strong privacy laws. Not a good combination.
