Poor Mayer Brown.
Every other large firm on the list has contacted us and/or Above the Law to deny it’s the firm The 5 o’Clock Club representative was talking about in last weekend’s Washington Post article.
Morgan Lewis says we can “scratch [them] off the list.” The representative also wants to let us and our readers know of the firm’s continuing objection to the inclusion of the Morgan Lewis layoffs described in this Above the Law article from January in the data. The firm’s official position is that the March layoff of 216 people is Morgan Lewis’s only round of layoffs. We’ve asked for further clarification as to whether that includes the so-called “stealth” layoffs Morgan Lewis reportedly conducted in January, or, in the alternative if the firm can unequivocally deny any layoffs during the period (stealth, performance based, random, or otherwise). If so, we’ll update the tracker, but until then, we stand by the number as reported by ATL.
We’re unabashed fans of BigLaw around here, but we’re also sticklers for transparency. We encourage firms to contact us directly and promptly if something is wrong or unclear so we can address it appropriately.
Fish & Richardson and Loeb & Loeb remain on the list, by the way, but we’re dubious about their being the right firms. Any other likely candidates?
