BigLaw Running ABA

lamm-carolynWhite & Case’s Carolyn Lamm has begun her term as President of the American Bar Association. She brings the title back to BigLaw, taking over from an Alabama litigator.

More on Lamm and her successor, after the jump.

Lamm (SUNY Buffalo BS ‘70, Miami JD ‘73) focuses on international arbitration out of White & Case’s DC office. She is past president of the DC Bar Association and was on the National Law Journal’s 50 Most Influential Women in America list in 2007. According to the press release,

Building membership in all segments of the association, including young lawyers, and lawyers from both small and large firms will be one of Lamm’s primary focuses during her presidential term. Lamm also looks forward to working to increase diversity within the legal profession.

Lamm was a member of the ABA House of Delegates from 1982 to 2005, and of the ABA Board of Governors from 2002 to 2005. She is former chair of the ABA Young Lawyers Division, and served on the ABA Standing Committee on Federal Judiciary, and on numerous committees with the ABA Sections of Litigation, International Law and Business Law.

Lamm is also a council member of the American Law Institute, and a board member of the American Turkish Chamber of Commerce, the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and the American Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce.

BigLaw will reign for at least two terms. Lamm’s successor will be Stephen Zack, a litigation partner at Boies Schiller. What’s with all the litigators, though?

That’s not the only BigLaw appointment.  Wachtell’s Ilene Knable Gotts will be running the antitrust committee.
