They were picked to go first because of their high earnings. The juries awarded about $9 million to each family.

This article is a bit of inside baseball on the pleadings, but it's interesting to see that Kiwi Camara has turned up again in another high-profile suit. He is now Psystar's lawyer in its suits against Apple. You may remember him from such hits as the Jammie Thomas RIAA re-trial (which resulted in a verdict that was $1.7 million WORSE for his client) or graduating Harvard Law at 20 (and where, as a student, he used some racially insensitive shorthand in his brief of Shelley v. Kraemer).
