Narrowing the Field

We’ve been bouncing back and forth with Above the Law, speculating about what was certainly meant to be an innocuous comment in a Washington Post article about a layoff consultant.  We, ATL, and the ATL commenters have been trying to figure out what firm called the consultant.

The criteria: 2 rounds already this year, considering laying off a dozen more this month, with possibly more to follow in the fall.

Earlier this week, we narrowed the list down to seven, based on tracked layoffs.

Today, ATL has gotten denials from three of the contenders.

After the jump, the revised list.

Spokespersons from Dewey & LeBoeuf, Schulte Roth, and White & Case all denied the speculation.  In fact, White & Case appeared on a client list of The 5 O’Clock Club, but that has since been removed.  Fortunately, Lat is wearing his reporter cap again while Elie is out on vacation and has a copy he’ll be re-posting.

So, the revised list:

  • Fish & Richardson
  • Loeb & Loeb
  • Mayer Brown
  • Morgan Lewis & Bockius
  •
Our money is on the M&M twins for now.

Of course, we also wouldn’t be surprised if all the publicity spooks the firm and it waits for the next wave of layoffs we’re anticipating for September/October anyway.
