Quick Shucks – 8/11/09

quickshucks* Bitter Lawyer sat down with self-proclaimed “Bitch,” author/attorney(?) Elizabeth Wurtzel. The Boies Schiller associate couldn’t see herself working at a big firm like WilmerHale, where she summered, so she sent David Boies an email out of the blue. The Yale alumni connection runs deep.

After the jump, a CEO and a judge returning to private practice, and two witnesses with incendiary comments.

* Another interesting interview: AmLaw Daily’s chat with McCarter & English’s Jamie Karson, who rejoined the firm after a stint as CEO of shoe company Steve Madden. He filled in while the eponymous founder was in jail for securities fraud.

* Vice Chancellor Lamb’s last opinion on the Delaware Court of Chancery is a doozy. Now that his desk is cleared off, he can head off to Paul Weiss, of all places.

* An expert witness testified that he had “absolutely no doubt” that lawyer Francis X. Morrissey, Jr. had forged a codicil to Brooke Astor’s will.

* Speaking of witnesses, a research scientist who had already won $24.6 million from Pfizer in a whistleblower suit and was about to testify in the Neurontin case that just settled, claims the pharma company sent a former CIA agent to his house to intimidate him. Skadden and Boies Schiller say he’s exaggerating.
