Top Posts for September 09

top10-septBelow are our top posts for September. As usual, we don’t include our regular features like This Week in Layoffs and The Month in Layoffs in the Top 10 posts for the month. A number of posts from the Laid Off Diary would also make the ranking, but we exclude that too. Go to its dedicated page to catch up on the whole series. We also debuted the war-addled musings of General Counsel in the Law is a Battlefield series.

10 – Tim Mayopolous was ousted as GC of Bank of America in the wake of the Merrill Lynch acquisition. We tracked down his background.

The rest of the top 10 after the jump.

9 – Judge Jed Rakoff has been making headlines with his furor at Wachtell and Shearman, among others.

8 – We wrote more articles than usual about insider trading this month. Insider’s Tip #6 was timely and well-read (coincidentally, we posted it the day before Melissa Mahler popped up).

7 – Articles that appeal to schadenfreude always seem to do well, and Wachtell being replaced by Jones Day on the Satyam case certainly drew the traffic.

6 – Surprisingly, we were ahead of the UK legal publications with our scoop (thanks to a tipster!) on layoffs at IP firm Marks & Clerk.

5 – Cravath and Cahill Gordon failed to catch a change of control provision that ended up leading to a $115 million purchase-price reduction.

4 – The troubles keep on coming at White & Case. Distributions are down and the firm finally gave London representation on the management committee.

3- It’s so frustrating when you try to help people, but they ignore your advice. That’s how we felt about Melissa Mahler, the former Nixon Peabody lawyer whose insider-trading efforts were just offensively inept.

2 – She put up a strong performance all month but was nipped out at the end. Deidre Dare, friend to bloggers everywhere, came in second for the month on news that she was considering prostitution.

1 – Despite its late start, being posted on the 30th, Most-Satisfied Summers Were at Firms Without Layoffs jumped to the top of the list for the month in one busy day that overwhelmed our GoDaddy hosting.
