[Ed: It's now over $2 million, if all of the matches are fully funded as of 1/16]
We certainly spend enough time point out the failings of BigLaw, so it’s particularly bittersweet that it took such a tragedy to remind us to step up the kudos.
Lat was first on Above the Law with the news that Paul Hastings was contributing $100,000 to relief aid for Haiti.
The WSJ Law Blog followed up with news of several other firms that have stepped up:
- Skadden
- Kirkland & Ellis
- Holland & Knight
- Morrison & Foerster
- Sonnenschein
- Morgan Lewis
- Hughes Hubbard
- Weil Gotshal
- Dewey & LeBoeuf
- Hogan & Hartson
- Latham & Watkins
- Venable
- Akin Gump
[Ed: Following added 1/16]
- Katten Muchin
- Cooley Godward
- Patton Boggs
- Paul Weiss
- Gibson Dunn
- Debevoise & Plimpton
- Fried Frank
- Morrison & Foerster
- Chadbourne & Parke
- Winston & Strawn
- Foley & Lardner
- McGuireWoods
- King & Spalding
In aggregate, the firms are undertaking to contribute well over a million dollars.
This is one case where the BigLaw herd is going the right way. Well done!
To help, may we suggest: American Red Cross (or donate $10 by texting HAITI to 90999); Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti (you can also donate $5 by texting YELE to 501501 and it will show up on your phone bill); and Doctors Without Borders.
