
Some of you might have heard of the new Google Buzz project, which is bringing social networking to your Gmail account. Some have claimed that it will kill Facebook (MySpace is already dead), others say it’s a privacy disaster waiting to happen (story is mildly NSFW because the author says “F___ Google” because Buzz allegedly exposed her activity to her abusive ex).
The jury is still out on that, but there is one minor legal wrinkle that’s of interest to BigLaw.
Meredith Pavia (Duke BA ’00, Texas JD ’06), a Fenwick & West associate, secured the rights to the domain name for Google, according to TechCrunch. (Although the author didn’t actually bother to Google her; he said she’s “presumably a Google lawyer,” which might not be technically incorrect)
She didn’t have a lot of opposition, as the squatter no-showed, but a win’s a win, right?
